Vegeta`s training was cool to watch, we see some character development between Bulma and Vegeta (as opposed to none in the manga), and you gotta love Vegeta`s trippy nightmare. Great animation aside, I always liked this episode. However, we end up with a good filler episode because of it. Goku!! The King of the Fighting Saiyan RaceĬomments: It`s a shame that the good animation team is "wasted" on a filler episode. The Savage Recoom! The Bad, Strong, and Outrageous Guyįreeza Halved By a Single Blow!! Another Super SaiyanĬomments: Godlike animation, Trunks at the peak of his badassery (hell, does anyone top this?), an insert song, and Vegeta in a pink shirt. The art still looks fantastic even in shots where the shading is minimal. I`ll start off with two completely random episodes from the last disc I watched.Ĭome Forth, Shenron! The Saiyan Finally Arrive on EarthĬomments: I've always liked this tag team art style of Tatsuo/Minoru and specifically remember them as the team that animated the last DB episode. I'm curious to see what pops up in this thread. He truly captures Toriyama`s style like no other. Personally, I feel Maeda Minoru`s stuff (the man was in charge of all the promotional art for the anime until 1993) is the best of the bunch. Ultimately, what constitutes as "well animated" is completely up to you. I used 320x240, it makes everything look sexy. Preferably from the Dragon Box (crappy Cartoon Network screencaps are crappy), and nothing too huge. Post a couple of screencaps of your favorite scenes. It's a great way to breeze through the series.ġ.

Given that the series is over 400 episodes long, a list of well animated and (not coincidentally I think) important episodes all in one spot is pretty convenient I think. So I'd like to organize a list of well animated episodes. It seems like Toei hires the more expensive teams for important moments, and pays amateurs pennies to animate the less important, dragged out episodes. I'm sure this is no coincidence, but my favorite episodes of the series are very well animated. I'd like to keep things a little more organized. But those threads usually devolve into "lol look at Vegeta in this pic". Now, we've had animation discussions in the past. It's one of the main reasons why I have a hard time watching that show! Heck, horrible animation/art has become even more apparent with Kai, as it will radically change in the middle of an episode. I mean, we literally jump from this:īetween a single episode (or seconds if we're talking the last episode recap!). It didn't bother me as a kid, but now it's just cringe inducing. What's the longest anime you've ever watched? Are you all the way caught up on One Piece? Let us know in the comments below. So I'm making my way through the entire series again with the Dragon Boxes, and I'm noticing the inconsistent art style more than ever before. Meanwhile, shows like Gintama and Bleach, which clock in just under 400 episodes, seem positively breezy by comparison.

For example, a show like One Piece will take you 16 full days where you leave it on constantly, not pausing to eat or sleep.Īnother notable monumental undertaking would be the current Guinness World Record holder for longest running animated show, Sazae-san, which is still on the air with over 7000 episodes-but don't worry, it's actually not even available in its entirety and was never licensed out for western audiences.

The time you spend working through every season will undoubtedly pay off-you'll just need to figure out how much you need to invest in the first place. Some of the most beloved anime of all time have episode counts numbering into the hundreds-and these shows last that long for a reason. Of course, that's not to say it won't pay off. Whether you're a completionist looking to watch every Gundam or Dragon Ball show ever made or just someone hoping to undertake the monumental task of starting from the beginning with a currently airing show like One Piece, you're in for a major challenge.

But you might need more than just a little free time to make it through or catch up on these particular shows. Anime is a lot of things-and thanks to streaming services like Crunchyroll, it's more accessible than ever.
